Mark Sarkisian, PE, SE, NAE, NAC, LEED BD+C,

Partner of Seismic and Structural Engineering in the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, has developed innovative engineering solutions for over 100 major building projects around the world including some of the tallest and most complex. Mark holds ten U.S. Patents and five International Patents for high-performance seismic structural mechanisms designed to protect buildings in areas of high seismicity and for seismic and environmentally responsible structural systems.
In 2021, Mark was elected to the prestigious United States’ National Academy of Engineering and in 2025 he was elected to the National Academy of Construction. He has received the prestigious Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) H.J. Brunnier Lifetime Achievement Award and the Fazlur Khan Life-Cycle Civil Engineering Medal. He is the author of “Designing Tall Buildings – Structure as Architecture” a foundational text for structural engineering and architectural design and teaches at UC Berkeley, California College of the Arts, Stanford University, Cal Poly, Northeastern University, NC State University, the Pratt Institute, and Alcala University in Madrid.
He has a BS-CE Degree from the University of Connecticut and is a Fellow of the Academy of Distinguished Engineers, an MS-SE Degree from Lehigh University, an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Clarkson
University, and an Honorary Master’s Degree from the Politecnico di Milano.

Emily Guglielmo SE, PE, F.SEI
Emily Guglielmo is a structural engineer and Principal at Martin/Martin, Inc., where she leads the firm’s Western Region and serves as its national technical specialist in seismic and wind design. Over the past two decades, all spent at Martin/Martin, Emily has built a reputation as a national leader in structural code development, technical innovation, and mentorship.
Emily currently chairs both the ASCE 7 Seismic Subcommittee and the NCSEA Code Advisory Committee, playing a direct role in shaping the codes that govern structural engineering across the country. She is a Past-President of NCSEA, SEAOC, and SEAONC and has presented widely across the U.S. and internationally on topics including seismic design, wind engineering, and professional development.
Emily is passionate about helping the next generation of engineers find their own voice, embrace technical rigor, and shape the future of the profession, because the world we’re building needs engineers who are, truly, Built Different.
